Creating and Maintaining Balanced and Healthy Parent-Child Relationships

From a spiritual perspective, children choose their parents. This choice isn’t random; it’s a deliberate soul agreement for mutual healing, growth, and evolution.

Before incarnation, the child's soul reviews its past experiences and lessons, then selects the exact family and circumstances as the ideal mirror to reflect unresolved energies, spark healing, and provide a shared learning space for all souls. The parents’ soul also choose this role of being a parent, embracing parenthood as a path for their own healing and growth alongside the child. Therefore, the child’s behaviors, needs, and triggers naturally reflect the parents’ unhealed aspects, inviting compassion, forgiveness, and release. But creating and maintaining balanced parent-child relationships can be challenging, especially when coupled with daily stresses, differing needs, emotional triggers, and generational patterns.

Drawing from 25 years of SRT work, here are some key areas I often address and clear:

  • Shared past lives that inform the current dynamics, underscoring the importance of freeing oneself from the emotional weight and lessons of these past life experiences.

  • Subconscious parenting beliefs and generational patterns (such as “Obedience equals love,” “Vulnerability is weakness”, control, emotional suppression, perfectionism, conflict avoidance).

  • Parents' own unresolved childhood wounds (for example, feeling unseen, over-responsibility, overly controlled).

  • Ancestral family role imprints (for instance, “Eldest must sacrifice,” “Emotions are dangerous,” “Authority must be feared”).

  • Fear-based blocks to closeness (like rejection or loss of self).

  • Guilt or resistance to healthy boundaries (for instance, thinking rejection = selfish or bad).

  • Blocks to empathy and attunement (hence projecting our own unresolved emotions onto others, or shutting down emotionally).

  • Over-identification with parent/child roles (such as “My value depends on my child's outcomes”; children are labeled and internalize roles like “the problem child” or “the good child.”)

There's no right or wrong when it comes to the parent/child relationship journey. SRT simply clears whatever is in the way of every person learning, growing, and evolving in ways that are for their highest good.
